I'm Happy
I bought this unit to replace a Coralife 36" (2X96 fan cooled Freshwater 6700K) unit. I live in El Paso and my tank is under a sky-light. Due to the abundance of natural light, I don't really need much for things to grow. I run the light about 5 hours a day (6 to 11PM).
Pros- runs much cooler than my Coralife. I like the natural color of the LED units over the 6700K Coralife. Very low profile(may be a + or - depending on your taste).
Cons- not a salt water or coral light. Not enough light for that. Marineland would need to double the LED count to come close. Cannot run just the blue lights separately, should have had two cords for use of timers with the unit. Use of power adapter a little cheap and flimsy compared to the two three prong power cords of the Coralife. Coralife has much more light output, can change the bulbs for different color needs (salt, fresh, plant, coral, etc)
Because I don't need a bunch of light, I like the unit and will...

Exactly what I wanted, but do your research.
I bought this light for a 75 gallon (48 in long) freshwater aquarium that will used as a home for herbaceous fish, living in medium to lower light environments. This means there are no live plants in the aquarium, and bright light is not a requirement.
Pros - A nice dispersement of light; energy efficient; low profile: hovers near the glass but not on the glass, allowing you to see any algae growth beginning to form on the underside of the hood; very nice daytime lighting effect.
Cons - Begins to "sag" when extended to the full 48 inches. Marineland could have made the extension arms a tad more sturdy; the moon light blue LEDs are barely effective. You know they are there, but are inconsequential. Doubling the number of blues would have been easy. Double power cords and switches would be a nice addition for use of timers for the two light settings.
All in all, not a bad fixture for the price. A 48 inch version would be better, with the same number...
Great LED lighting
I purchased this light for a fish-only tank and it has been great. It is pretty bright and the "shimmer" effect is pretty cool. The lunar lights are not really that bright, but they do serve their purpose. If you are considering this light for a planted aquarium, you basically have to stick with low-light plants. I learned this the hard way. It will keep plants alive, but if you have medium to high-light plants they probably wont die, but they will not flourish either. For fish only this light really brings out the colors of the fish very well. Definately recommend this light for the purposes that I have explained above.
